Really connected with this section. Something I believe many people refuse to face, thus undermining the collective. Thank you for putting this on the table.
'... political and cultural awareness is so important - you cannot numb yourself from oppressive systems and focus solely on “doing me/us”, you need to know the game you are playing in order to actively engage and challenge its injustices.'
Probably my favourite read of yours so far. This part striking a chord with me:
"You have a sacred responsibility to heal yourself from the trauma that comes with being ripped out of your natural habitat. You need to take responsibility for your life, and you need to purge what is keeping you stuck in habitual patterns of numbing and dissociation."
"All healing is letting go, and the somatic imprint that is left on us as a result of trauma needs to be tended to at this level." - I yearn for a world where we are having these conversations with adolescents and supporting them to find practical, accessible, replicable tools to communicate their feelings & needs
There are some great pockets of wisdom and insight in here and I agree that without having clear rites of passage and intergenerational passing on of knowledge, the transition to adulthood is problematic in our modern culture.
What I wonder, is that even after reaching "adulthood" as we know it, is it not likely that there might be continuous cycles of growth and regression in that stage and beyond? That we may never quite get "there" because even if we discover that "know where we are going" one moment, that doesn't mean that this can't change when upheaval or change invariably occurs. Are we setting ourselves up for disappointment by thinking there's some ultimate destination of letting go or transformation to perfect adulthood we will meet?
My other curious thought I had in response to this was, "What if someone can be vaping and drinking and simultaneously working on their demons and traumas?" as two opposite things can indeed be true. And, the role of play also in all of this, and how we can take full responsibility for life and still have moments for play, wildness and the carefree, as an antidote to overwhelm.
Points would love to chat about when this comes up in our soul pod anyhow.
Thanks for these thoughts Rachel. Definitely feel that the feeling of arrival is an illusory creation of the ego in an attempt to hold on to a sense of self.
It is true that we can still puff and pop but the distinction that I’d like to make clear is that whether they are conscious choices or unconscious choices.
If we are at the behest of unconscious choices and we are yet to overcome them I think it is something that needs to be addressed as it’s usually tied in with an inability to embrace the present moment fully.
Alongside this adulthood isn’t the final destination, there are actually two stages to adulthood and then there is elderhood. Bill Plotkin outlines this in great detail in his book journey of soul destination.
In traditional cultures society was centred around the elders who as well as the tribe visionaries or “seers” who oversaw the business dealings. I spoke about this in the 4 stages of life.
I believe this is what we refer to as “enlightenment” in the modern world. It being such a rare acheivement in our fractured society says a lot hey!
Hope that answers and keen to explore with you more ❤️
Loved this sharing and can feel the potency of the reflective process this has begun in me, I’m looking forward to all the gold I can feel will be yielded through deeper reflection on these ideas. And I’m excited to dream into a world where these hallmarks are the foundations and focus of our journey into adulthood, what an amazing world that will be✨
This read resonates with me the most. "There are vampires that suck our life force that all of us need to confront at some stage. You know what yours are. The soul-sucking habits that pull you from an inability to be truly present and welcome the deep now in all its totality". I am currently in the period of my life where friendships are ending and changing, becoming more aware of where I have put my energy and understanding that certain friendships that have lasted 3+ years whilst being immersed in the party scene and friendships that no longer serve a purpose. Transformation is hard and when you decide to grow up and make a different life for yourself it's very interesting to see who sticks around for that positive change.

We cannot CBT our way out of the multi-dimensional quality of being alive. We have a body that feels, a mind the sees and a soul that knows. These all need to be addressed in an appropriate container and integrated in a community that supports us
Thankyou for the reminder ♡
I've always known deeply but without a supportive community, it can be easy to forget and fall back into the matrix.
“self-awareness is not just something that falls on your lap if you are running the default cultural setting. It takes choosing yourself, it takes healthy relationships, it takes a thriving community and it takes years of study and practice.”
really appreciate this one. for a long time in my late teens/coming into my twenties i thought i had really ‘good’ self awareness. but without close healthy relationships & community there was such a big lack of support, accountability and awareness with how my thoughts and actions not only impact myself but everything and everyone in my surroundings.
"A true adult does not ignore the perilous fate of humanity. They dive deep, not only into their personal shadow; but also into the collective shadow, alchemising grief when confronting the polycrisis into fuel for collective liberation"

Loved it as always, Moe. Though you might want to proofread one more time ✨️

Your prayer and my prayer are very much the same!

Your words are powerful and received well.
